TOKYO – (COMMERCIAL THREAD) – Renesas Electronics Corporation (TSE: 6723), a leading provider of advanced semiconductor solutions, today introduced a powerful new group of microcontrollers (MCUs), the RH850 / U2B MCUs, designed to meet the the growing need to integrate multiple applications into a single chip and realize a unified Electronic Control Unit (ECU) for the evolving electrical-electronic (E / E) architecture. Offering a combination of high performance, flexibility, zero interference and security, the RH850 / U2B Interdomain Microcontrollers are designed for the rigorous workloads required by vehicle movement in terms of ICE Hybrid Traction Inverter and xEV, high-end zone control, connected gateway and domain control applications.
Thus, Renesas is expanding its portfolio of cross-domain microcontrollers with devices ranging from RH850 / U2A microcontrollers for body and chassis control systems to high performance RH850 / U2B microcontrollers. Customers can also combine these MCUs with Renesas R-Car S4 systems-on-a-chip for automotive central gateway systems to create a scalable solution for I / O architectures.
“The future of automotive system design lies in a centralized, area-oriented I / O architecture, which increases the need for automotive chips that meet the challenges that these innovative architectures create for future generations of vehicles,” Naoki Yoshida, vice-president President, Automotive Digital Products Marketing Division at Renesas. “The RH850 / U2B microcontrollers extend Renesas’ family of cross-domain microcontrollers to provide customers with higher levels of performance, memory integration and hardware support for new zone and domain control applications, particularly for the powertrain and HEV / EV, while maintaining the strict parameters of cost, safety and security required for these automotive systems.
Designed for zone and domain applications, the 28nm RH850 / U2B MCUs leverage key features of Renesas RH850 / E2x series for powertrain and RH850 / C1M-Ax series for engine control HEV / EV, while adding several new enhancements including the new accelerator IP, higher performance levels and increased security. This combination allows users to integrate multiple ECU functions into a single ECU while meeting stringent requirements for automotive grade safety, security and real-time operation.
The MCU’s built-in hypervisor hardware virtualization assist function enables multiple software systems with ISO26262 ASIL D functional safety levels to operate independently, without interference, during high performance, and reduce virtualization overhead to maintain real-time execution. Quality of Service (QoS) provides latency monitoring and regulation for all bus masters to ensure that minimum bandwidth is always available. RH850 / U2B MCUs support full, safe and fast OTA software updates with built-in dual bank flash that allows the ECU to update and save images while the MCUs are in active mode and allows the ECU to operate from the original code if a failure occurs. The Integrated Motor Control Throttle IP (EMU3S) works in conjunction with several dedicated motor control timer structures such as GTM v4.1 and TSG3 to dramatically reduce CPU processing loads while achieving full rotation. great speed. Dedicated Data Flow Processor Accelerator (DFP) IP allows the processor to offload compute heavy operations for complex control.
